Ioc Counter Sees Hectic Activity

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) scrip witnessed hectic trading activity at major bourses yesterday. The scrip witnessed negotiated deals on the BSE and NSE. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, the scrip witnessed trading volumes of 22,450 shares, which is quite a substantial volume for the normally illiquid counter.

On the NSE, the scrip clocked trading volumes of 81,800. Marketmen said FIIs were sellers at the counter, while domestic institutions provided buying support at the counter. On the BSE, the scrip closed at Rs 604.75, up Rs 20 over the previous close.

FIIs were sellers at the ONGC counter. The scrip clocked trading volumes of 1.75 lakh and 2.02 lakh shares on the BSE and NSE respectively. Buying support from domestic institutions prevented a sharp fall in share prices. FIIs were reported to be sellers at other refinery counters like BPCL and HPCL too.

The DLF Cement scrip witnessed a flurry of activity on rumours of takeover by a leading cement company. On the BSE, the scrip clocked trading volumes of 5.28 lakh shares and went on to touch a new 52-week high of Rs 13.95 during intra-day trading. It finally closed at Rs 12.95, up Rs 2.25 over the previous close. On the NSE, 21200 shares of DLF Cement changed hands.

Big bull-favoured counters were in the limelight once again with BPL, Sterlite, Videocon International and United Phosphorous hitting the upper end of the circuit filter on frenzied buying interest.

Software scrips continued their one-way trip northwards with DSQ Software, BFL Software and HCL Infosystems hitting the upper end of the circuit filter at new 52-week highs.

The Crest Communication scrip saw a fresh wave of buying interest yesterday with trading in the scrip on the BSE being frozen at Rs 24.90 after there were only buyers at the counter. The scrip clocked trading volumes of 11,200 and 13,200 shares on the BSE and NSE respectively.

The Global Telesystems scrip flared up to new 52-week highs of Rs 143.40 and Rs 144.60 on the BSE and NSE respectively on speculative interest. The scrip has been bucking the general trend at bourses from Rs 90 levels. The Tata Infotech stock flared to new 52-week highs, prior to its annual results. Trading in the scrip was frozen at new 52-week highs of Rs 1455.50 and Rs 1455 on the BSE and NSE respectively after there were no sellers at the counter.
