With the exponential uptick in adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning related activity in India, the demand for IOT talent rocketed by 304 per cent between 2014 and 2017, according to the Talent Supply Index (TSI) by Belong - the world’s first predictive outbound hiring platform provider. The TSI is based on Belong's platform data and publicly-available data from a continuously growing array of hiring sources, including traditional job sites, inbound recruiting channels, online communities, tech networks, discussion forums and more. The June 2017 TSI factored more than 1.6 million jobs and over 260,000 candidates. “While several surveys rank either in-demand jobs or in-demand skills, what talent leaders need today is that one metric that fuses demand and supply sides of the equation to track how competitive the landscape is,” said Vijay Sharma, co-founder and CEO of Belong. “What’s clear is that even in the midst of all the layoffs, it’s solidly a candidate-driven market for the jobs of the future,” he added.

Blurring of reality

Ericsson has published its latest ConsumerLab report - Merged Reality - revealing insights into how consumers expect virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to merge with physical reality. It reveals that when boundaries between our perception of physical and virtual reality blur, this could result in a drastic impact on lives. Realities will not merge if the user is tethered to a computer or cut off from physical reality. Early adopters of VR/AR expect next-generation networks like 5G to play a central role. Thirty-six per cent have expectations on 5G to provide VR/AR mobility through a stable, fast and high-bandwidth network. Thirty per cent of early adopters also expect 5G to enable tethered headsets to become wireless. Seven out of 10 early adopters expect VR/AR to change everyday life in six domains: media, education, work, social interaction, travel and retail.
