Kardi, Copra Oils Decline; Gold Prices Up By Rs 15

Kardi oil expeller and copra oil white declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 320 and Rs 425 per 10 kg, respectively, yesterday on sluggish industrial demand against better arrivals from the producing centres. Castor oil commercial and BSS qualities also eased by Rs 3 each to Rs 402 and Rs 414 per 10 kg.

Imported RBD palmolein softened by Rs 2 at Rs 212 per 10 kg on dull industrial demand while soybean oil refined held steady at Rs 233 per 10 kg on better movements. Groundnut oil stayed stagnant at its previous closing level.

Castorseeds June 2000 contract opened Rs 10 lower at Rs 1.901 a quintal and improved to Rs 1910. It, however, declined to close at Rs 1,882 a quintal. Castor oil international contract April 2000 was steady at Rs 419 per 10 kg.

Castorseeds declined by Rs 15 to Rs 1,860 a quintal on brisk supplies and dull offtake.

Sugar: A dull trend continued on slack demand. Small-grade sugar (S-30) slipped further to Rs 1,470/ 1,520 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,490/ 1,525 on improved arrivals from upcountry centres and mills. Medium grade (M-30) eased to 1,515/ 1585 a quintal (Rs 1,520/ 1,590) on subdued offtake against modest availability of ready stock.

Sugar for check-post deliveries was quoted higher at Rs 1,447/ 1,465 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,488/ 1,505 for medium grade.

Non-ferrous metals: An upward-to-steady trend was witnessed with scraps edging up while virgins remaining steady. Demand was subdued against normal supply position. In scraps, copper heavy scraps, copper utensils, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings firmed up further by 50 paise each to Rs 117, Rs 99.50, Rs 89.50 and Rs 96.50 a kg, respectively, on better industrial enquires and reduced inflows. Aluminium utensils held steady at Rs 68.50 a kg.

In virgins, nickel cathodes improved by Rs 2 at Rs 590 a kg on firm overseas advices backed by better industrial demand and limited availability of ready stock. Others closed at their previous levels with copper wirebar quoted at Rs 122.50, aluminium ingots at Rs 90, zinc slabs at Rs 89.50, lead ingots at Rs 35 and tin slabs at Rs 372 a kg.

Bullion : A mixed trend was noticed in precious metals yesterday. Silver ruled quiet while gold edged up.

Silver .999 held steady at Rs 7,915 a kg on subdued overseas advices and modest demand while silver .916 improved by Rs 10 to Rs 7,795 a kg on firm upcountry advices and moderate local offtake. The demand was better. Delhi advices indicated a moderate trend.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold improved by Rs 15 each to Rs 4,365 and Rs 4,040 per 10 gram, respectively, on strong overseas advices and modest local offtake. Gold biscuit prices gained Rs 300 at Rs 51,200 per piece.
