Don't we all like to chill, get together, party or hang out with family or friends? Why not do it over grilling? That's the message, Manish Khandelwal, the managing director of Weber India, a subsidiary of Weber Stephen, the iconic manufacturer of gas, charcoal and electric grills, wants to send out.

Weber launched its first store in New Delhi last week at Ghitorni, a few kilometres from the Gurgaon border. Despite being in India since 2009, this is Weber's first foray into Delhi as it attempts to tap the north Indian market.

The art of making food and socialising simultaneously is somewhat going out of fashion, and that's where Weber intends to make a difference with grilling.

The iconic Weber product is the charcoal grill, which involves closed-lid grilling. The kettle is made of steel and coated with porcelain enamel. It is an environment-friendly way of grilling, and one can add wood, juice and alcohol to enhance the flavour. The price ranges from Rs 10,995 (for a compact 47 grill) to Rs 49,995 (for a "performer premium" grill). The charcoal grill is equipped with a one-touch cleaning system, preventing the build-up of ashes, and subsequently ensuring easy ash disposal and cleaning.

The most popular Weber grill, according to Khandelwal, is the Q-range gas grill. This is also Weber's highest selling product. The Q-series gas grill comes in three sizes. The smallest, the Q1000 (Rs 21,995), is a portable grill that one can carry along when going trekking or hiking. The largest is the Q3200 (Rs 39,995) which is ideal for a party in one's balcony. The ideal temperature to use the Q-series gas grill is 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Weber grills are a premium brand. Yet, given their strong global reputation, they are well worth the price. As Khandelwal points out, some of the finest hotels in the country use these grills.
