M & M To Acquire Hps Latest 8-Way Server

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is all set to acquire the very latest of hardware for its Enterprise Resource Planning software implementation - the industrys first 8-way server from Hewlett Packard - for use in its Kandivali (in north-west Mum-bai) plant. The product - HP Netserver LXr PRO 8 - was introduced barely a fortnight back in the US and has not been launched in the Asia-Pacific region.

However, M&M has struck a deal with Hewlett Packard worth Rs 7.5 crore, for using the

cutting edge server for its project. The delivery of the first batch is expected soon. M&M plans to phase out its AS/400 servers which it currently uses for its ERP purposes with the Netserver LxrPro.

The LXR Pro 8 employs a cluster of eight Intel Pentium Pro 200 MHz microprocessors for enterprise class applications such as ERP software from SAP. The server will run enterprise applications on top of Microsofts Windows NT operating system.

The eight-processor server takes advantage of the recently enhanced capabilities of Microsofts Windows NT OS to run mission-critical applications round the clock.

It is a Certified High-Availability solution built around the industry-standard Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS).
