Global computing major Compaq will offer its mobile commerce solutions in India soon as part of its plans for mobile computing. The company will work with local Indian system integrators (SIs) in implementing the project.
"We are in discussions with various Indian companies and is trying to notch up partnerships," said Rustom Kanga, vice-president, Custom Systems & Solutions, Asia Pacific, Compaq.
The Indian SIs which are the company's Indian partners would localise and customise the applications. "In this new line of business, apart from the other alliances we expect that a strong localisation of applications is needed. We are roping in Indian companies for that purpose," Kanga said.

Globally the company had tied up with VISA as a partner in its mobile business applications." VISA will provide the international back bone for financial transactions. This partnership would be available in India too," Kanga pointed out.
According to the company, mobile business model of Compaq will help customers by providing anytime anywhere business opportunity.
Besides, the company will also tie up with local access and content providers in offering the mobile business services in India. "The Indian access providers would be offering the access backbone while the content providers will offer the technical content that is specific to India," said Kanga.
According to Kanga, by the next financial year the company is expecting to implement at least one project in India. "The discussions have started. We are expecting at least one project by the next financial year," he said. "Though we are starting with business-to-business applications initially in India, the applications would be offered to the other areas too," Kanga said.
