Standard gold and 22 carat gold prices went up Rs 10 each to Rs 4,500 and Rs 4,160 per 10 gm on better overseas advices and normal local offtake. Gold biscuits prices firmed up too and gained Rs 100 at Rs 52,600 per piece on modest offtake and normal inflows of stock and moderate trading movements.
Oils and Oilseeds: Groundnut oil receded by Rs 2 at Rs 400 per 10 kg on dull offtake and subdued movements. The arrivals of imported goods were brisk, but trading volumes continued to thin. Out-of-state orders indicated a subdued trend.
Copra oil white dropped further by Re 1 to Rs 360 per 10 kg on dull industrial demand. Imported RBD palmolein softened Re 1 to Rs 216 per 10 kg on improved inflows of imported goods and dull offtake, while imported soya oil refined was steady at Rs 237 per 10 kg on subdued demand against modest inflows of imported goods.

Castorseeds September contract opened Rs 6 lower at Rs 1,542 a quintal and firmed up to Rs 1548. However, it declined to Rs 1,517 before closing at Rs 1,522 a quintal on speculative movements. December contract opened Rs 10 lower at Rs 1,443 a quintal and advanced to Rs 1,447. It declined to Rs 1,416 before closing at Rs 1,420 on speculative movements.
Castor oil international August contract remained untraded yesterday. While October contract opened Rs 6 lower at Rs 358 per 10 kg and ruled steady throughout the session at the same level.
Nigerseeds firmed up further Rs 25 to Rs 2,175 a quintal on reduced arrivals from the upcountry centres and better offtake. Meanwhile, all the other oilseeds ruled overall steady on narrow movements.
Sugar: A firm trend continued at Turbhe, wholesale sugar market at Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Both the grades ruled firm. A better demand led to firm trend in sugar prices.
Small-grade sugar (S-30) improved further to Rs 1520/1545 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1,515/1,545 on better consumer demand against restricted inflows. Medium-grade (M-30) also firmed up further to Rs 1,545/1,575 a quintal against its previous level of Rs 1540/1575.
Consumer demand was better against normal supply position. Sugar prices for check-post were quoted lower at Rs 1,505/1,515 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1528/1545 for the medium grade yesterday.
Non-ferrous metals: Copper firmed up, while all the other metals ruled quiet in the non-ferrous metals at the local market yesterday. The demand was dull against normal supply.
In virgins, copper wirebar inched up 50 paise to Rs 140.50 a kg on modest upcountry advices backed by subdued industrial demand at higher level.
Meanwhile, all the other metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under : aluminium ingots Rs 93.00, zinc slabs Rs 89.50, lead ingots Rs 36.00, tin slabs Rs 377 and nickel cathodes Rs 516 a kg on narrow movements.
In scraps, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under : copper heavy scraps Rs 121.50, copper utensils Rs 103.50, brass utensils Rs 91.00, brass sheetcuttings Rs 100.75 and aluminium utensils Rs 72.50 a kg respectively on narrow movements.
