The decision was taken by the Delhi High Court after the Delhi police certified the conference complex as the most suitable venue for the trial proceedings against Rao in the Lakhubhai Pathak cheating case and St Kitts forgery case.
The order followed a Supreme Court direction to fix the venue within New Delhi security zone after the Delhi police and the Special Protection Group pleaded for the change from the crowded and vulnerable Tis Hazari court complex in North Delhi.
A notification issued by the high court registrar yesterday said committe room of Vigyan Bhawan annexe will be the venue as the commissioner of Delhi police described it as the most suitable venue to conduct the trial of cases against Rao.
Courts would now be set up at the annexe to try the $1 lakh Lakhubhai Pathak cheating case and St Kitts forgery case, in both of which Rao has been made an accused. The order said, as the choice of suitability of place has been left to the commissioner of police by the Supreme Court by its October 11 directive, the venue for conducting the trial pertaining to P V Narasimha Rao shall be the place found most suitable by the commissioner of Delhi police, that is committee room d, Vigyan Bhawan annexe.
