The BJP and the Janata Dal (United) yesterday separately announced their seat sharing arrangements in Bihar and Karnataka, marking an end to their conflicts over seat-sharing.
The status of the JD(U) within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was, however, not clear in view of the apparent confusion within the BJP.
Under the understanding, the BJP will contest only 29 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar_three less than what it contested during the 1998 Lok Sabha elections. The Samata Party will contest 25 seats, which include Sitamarhi, Shivan and Balia, which the BJP had contested last year.
