SAIL continued to hog the limelight for the second consecutive day with over one crore shares changing hands on the BSE and NSE put together.
On the BSE, the scrip closed at Rs 9.30 after touching an intra-day high of Rs 9.80. Yesterday, 79.65 lakh shares were traded on the BSE. This also included a few negotiated deals, though the exact number could not be confirmed.
Marketmen said institutions too were aggressive buyers at the counter.

According to broking circles, one of the reasons for the frenzied buying in the scrip could be the anticipation of some concessions for the steel industry once the BJP comes to power. There were also rumours of a possible private placement with an institution at Rs 12 levels.
This, however, could not be confirmed.
Himachal Futuristics witnessed a block deal of around 36.5 lakh shares on the BSE.
This accounts for nearly seven per cent of the total equity of the company.
The scrip which opened at Rs 15.10 touched an intra-day high of Rs 17 before slipping to Rs 15.30 at close. Promoters hold close to 75 per cent of the total equity.
The Bank of Baroda witnessed renewed buying interest with the scrip edging up on heavy volumes. On the BSE, it closed at Rs 104, up Rs 4 over the previous close with a total of 1.89 lakh shares changing hands.
Garware Polyster continued its ascend with the price moving up by Rs 1.40 on the BSE to close at Rs 22.15. On the BSE 1.45 lakh shares were traded while the NSE witnessed trading volumes of 82,600 shares.
The ITC Hotels scrip , normally a illiquid counter, witnessed trading in 1.5 lakh shares on the NSE. The scrip closed at Rs 129, up Rs 5 over the previous close.
SmithKline Beecham Pharma saw sharp volatility during intra-day trading with the scrip touch a new 52-week high of Rs 701 on the NSE during intra-day trading. It finally closed at Rs 661.80, a gain of Re 1 over the previous close.
