NSE REPORT
The trading sentiment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) firmed up on account of yesterday being the first day of the current settlement. The NSE-50 index closed at 1,244.60, over the previous close of 1248.35, a loss of 3.75 points. The Nifty moved in a narrow range, opening at 1,248.30, it touched a high of 1,251.40, dipped to a low of 1,240.90 before closing at 1,244.60.
The trading sentiment remained dull and the total traded turnover on dipped to Rs 1,002.61 crore with nearly 4.30 crore shares changing hands. The turnover was the lowest since May 27, 1997. The Midcap index closed at 1,347.85, a loss of 8.15 points over the previous close of 1,356.00.

Sources said the market dipped due to lack to buying support. Because of the long list of impending holidays. The operators are not willing to take fresh positions, said a member from an institutional brokerage.
Hectic activity was seen in the Reliance scrip which closed at Rs 374.50 over the previous close of Rs 378.55. The total traded turnover in RIL touched Rs 227.50 crore. The ITC scrip closed at Rs 571.95 (Rs 568.30) and its total traded turnover was Rs 187.30 crore.
Among the top five gainers were Reliance Capital, at Rs 93.35 (Rs 87.40), IDBI at Rs 113.20 (Rs 107.05), HPCL at Rs 500.05 (Rs 487), Asian Paints at Rs 314.40 (Rs 307.25), and IPCL at Rs 137.25 (Rs 134.15). Among the top five losers were Glaxo at Rs 453.20 (Rs 475.70), Ranbaxy at Rs 728.20 (Rs 762.90), Colgate at Rs 346.45 (Rs 360.20), Tata Chemicals at Rs 190 (Rs 195) and Arvind Mills at Rs 131.35 (Rs 134.65).
Meanwhile, on the Over the Counter Exchange of India (Otcei), share prices declined on speculative selling pressure from institutional investors and lack of buying support from operators.
The composite index opened at 116.45 and closed at 114.08 showing a decrease of 2.37 points over the previous days close of 116.45 points.
The total turnover was Rs 16.71 lakh involving 0.50 lakh shares and debentures. Major contribution was from listed equity contributing Rs 16.17 lakh ( 0.50 lakh equities). Among other segments listed debentures contributed Rs 0.39 lakh (305 debentures).
