Sensex Touches 52-Week High On Aggressive Purchases

Powered by buoyant trading sentiment, the BSE Sensex touched a new 52-week high of 4256.09 yesterday, a gain of 123.16 points over the previous close of 4133.24. Marketmen said that FIIs were aggressively making purchases across the board which saw many stocks touching their 52-week highs during intra day trading . The bourse witnessed a turnover of Rs 659.44 crore.

The Natex gained 57.13 points at 1827.43 points over the previous close of 177.33. The BSE-200 was 403.73 points, gaining 11.95 over the last close. The BSE Dollex stood at 187.65 points gaining 5.65 points

Among key pivotals, ITC and Tata Iron & Steel Corporation (Tisco) witnessed hectic activity with the former touching a new 52-week high of Rs 567 during intra day trading. The scrip closed at Rs 562.75, a gain of Rs 38 over the previous close.

Leading brokers said that the activity in Tisco was mainly on account of the firming up of steel prices in the international market. Hectic activity was observed in cement stocks and multinational stocks where FIIs were reported to have made huge purchases.

Among the key gainers were HLL, P&G, Ponds, Nestle, ACC, Madras Cements and Gujarat Ambuja Cements. HLL touched a 52-week high of Rs 1450 before closing at Rs 1439.50(+Rs 55.25), Ponds gained Rs 130.25 at Rs 1965.25, P&G edged up by Rs 41.75 at Rs 676.25, ACC at Rs 1452.50(+Rs 62.50), Ranbaxy touched a 52-week high of Rs 700 before closing at Rs 681.75, a gain of Rs 42.75 and GACL at Rs 346.50, gaining Rs 17.50 .

Hotel scrips also did well with Indian Hotels, East India Hotels and Asian Hotels figuring among the key gainers. Asian Hotels hit the upper end of the filter circuit at Rs 264.25, a gain of Rs 23.75.
