Shares Move Up On Fi Support

Pivotal prices moved up further on continued buying support from financial institutions and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday.

The NSE-50 index opened at 1015.75 points, touched the days high of 1024.30 points, low of 1015.10 points and closed at 1020.10 points, as against its previous close of 1009.45 points, gaining 10.65 points. However, Midcap index closed at 1081.40 points over last trading days close of 1075.29 points gaining 6.11 points.

Hectic trading was witnessed at State Bank of India (Rs 474.41 crore), ITC (Rs 376.11 crore), Reliance Industries Limited (Rs 230.82 crore), Tisco (Rs 69.77 crore), BSES (Rs 38.29 crore), Larson & Toubro (Rs 30.55 crore), Telco (Rs 30.07 crore), NIIT (Rs 26.13 crore), Mahanager Telecom Nigam Limited (Rs 26.13 crore), Associated Cement Company (Rs 17.48 crore), IPCL (Rs 6.7 crore), Bajaj Auto (Rs 6.32 crore), Gujarat Ambuja Cement (Rs 6.32 crore), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (Rs 6.22 crore), Tata Power (Rs 4.01 crore), Colgate (Rs 3.45 crore), Oriental Bank (Rs 2.74 crore), Hindustan Lever (Rs 2.36 crore), Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation of India (Rs 1.93 crore), Dr Reddy (Rs 1.48 crore), TVS Suzuki (Rs 1.39 crore), Mahendra & Mahendra (Rs 1.34 crore), Ranbaxy (Rs 1.29 crore), Sterlite (Rs 1.28 crore) and Hitechi (Rs 1.26 crore) counters.

The top five gainers were Mahadev Industries, Shamken Spinners, National Radio, Modi Telefibers and Chokhani International. While, losers were Steelco Gujarat, Cypromet, Agritech Hatcheries, Rama Vision and Skyline Nepc.

Meanwhile, shares prices declined marginally on lack of fresh buying support from bull operators and general investors on the Over the Counter (OTC) Exchange of India. The OTC composite index closed at 92.72 points as against its previous close of 92.86 points, suffering a loss of 0.14 points. The total turnover on OTC was Rs 15.19 lakh, involving 1,45,700 shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed equity segment of Rs 14.44 lakh. Listed debentures contribution was 0.62 lakh.
