Silver Displays Divergent Trend; Gnut Oil Easy

Groundnut oil eased by Re 1 at Rs 376 per 10 kg on dull demand and better arrivals, whereas other industrial oils ruled better-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Imported palmolein firmed up on better buyings.

In futures section, castor seeds March'98 contract opened up and firmed up further towards closing.

In other oils, kardi oil and neem oil improved by Rs 5 each to Rs 365 and Rs 175 per 10 kg respectively. Coconut oil white declined by Rs 15 at Rs 505 per 10 kg. Rapeseed oil and soybean oil refined firmed up further by Rs 2 and Re 1 to Rs 323 and Rs 323 per 10 kg respectively. Imported palmolein advanced by Rs 3 at Rs 317 per 10 kg.

In future section, castorseeds March'98 contract opened Rs 4 up at Rs 1,230 and improved to Rs 1,236 a quintal. It declined to Rs 1,230 before closing at Rs 1,234 a quintal. June contract opened Rs 8.50 higher at Rs 1,280 and firmed up to Rs 1,290 a quintal. It declined to Rs 1,280 before closing at Rs 1,281.5 a quintal.

In oilseeds, groundnuts - karad bold and Saurashtra bold firmed up by Rs 10 each to Rs 1,940 and Rs 1,960 per quintal respectively.

Sugar: Sugar of both the grades ruled easy. The undertone of the market remained weak.

Sugar S-30 ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted at Rs 1,442/1,485 a quintal. Sugar M-30 eased to Rs 1,455/1,545 as against the previous level of Rs 1,462/1,545 a quintal. Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted firm at Rs 1,425/1,435 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1,440/1,455 for the M-30 grade.

Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. The demand remained subdued-to-steady.

In scraps section, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under : copper heavy scraps Rs 105, copper utensils Rs 93.25, brass utensils Rs 82.75, brass sheetcuttings Rs 87.25 and aluminium utensils Rs 62 a kg respectively.

In virgin metals, all the metals were nominally quoted as under : copper wirebar Rs 114.50, aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 71.50, lead ingots Rs 40, tin slabs Rs 345 and nickel cathodes Rs 318 a kg respectively.

Bullion: A divergent trend was noticed in silver prices. Silver.999 fineness firmed up while raw silver .916 eased. Gold ruled slightly firm in the local bullion market yesterday.

In white metals, silver .999 improved by Rs 25 at Rs 8,855 a kg, whereas silver .916 eased by Rs 5 to Rs 8,710 a kg. Delhi advices also indicated a subdued trend.

In yellow metals, both standard gold and 22-carat gold looked up by Rs 5 each to Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,700 per 10 gramme. Gold biscuit prices also firmed up by Rs 100 at Rs 46,800 per bar.
