Groundnut oil eased further by Re one at Rs 375 per 10 kg on better arrivals coupled with subdued demand at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday. Imported palmolein advanced further by Rs 3 to Rs 320 per 10 kg on restricted arrivals.
In other oils, castor oil commercial and BSS qualities eased by Re 1 each to Rs 278 and Rs 290 per 10 kg respectively. Coconut oil white and neem oil declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 500 and Rs 170 per 10 kg respectively. Rapeseed oil and soybean oil refined eased by Rs 3 and Re 1 to Rs 320 and Rs 322 per 10 kg.
In futures section, castorseeds March98 contract opened Re 1 up at Rs 1,235 a quintal and ruled steady at the same level. It declined and closed at Rs 1,233 a quintal on speculative movements. June contract opened Rs 3.50 lower at Rs 1,278 and firmed up to Rs 1,282 a quintal. It declined to Rs 1,277 before closing at Rs 1,278 a quintal.

In oilseeds, castorseeds Madras and Maharashtra qualities declined by Rs 5 each to Rs 1,238 and Rs 1,232 a quintal respectively on brisk arrivals coupled with lower industrial demand.
Sugar: A downward-to-weak trend prevailed in sugar prices. Sugar of both the grades ruled easy. Sugar S-30 declined to Rs 1,432/1,471 from the previous level of Rs 1,442/1,485 a quintal. Sugar M-30 eased to Rs 1,445/1,529 against the previous level of Rs 1,455/1,545 a quintal. Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,415/1,425 a quintal for sugar S-30 and Rs 1,429/1,455 for sugar M-30.
Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday.
In scraps section, all the metals ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under : copper heavy scraps Rs 105, copper utensils Rs 93.25, brass utensils Rs 82.75, brass sheetcuttings Rs 87.25 and aluminium utensils Rs 62 a kg respectively on narrow movements.
In virgin metals, all the metals were nominally quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 114.50, aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 71.50, lead ingots Rs 40, tin slabs Rs 345 and nickel cathodes Rs 318 a kg respectively on narrow movements.
Bullion: In white metals, silver .999 improved further by Rs 145 and Rs 180 to Rs 9,000 and Rs 8,890 a kg respectively on firm overseas advices. Delhi advices also indicated a firm trend..
In yellow metals, both standard gold and 22-carat gold eased by Rs 5 each to Rs 3,995 and Rs 3,695 per 10 gramme on dull overseas advices and subdued availability. Gold biscuit prices also eased by Rs 100 at Rs 46,700 per piece of gold bar.
