Silver On A Free Fall, Nickel Cathodes Drop By Rs 4

Groundnut oil firmed up further yesterday on paucity of ready stock due to restricted arrivals from the producing centres. However, the demand was subdued at higher levels. Other industrial oils ruled easy-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, yesterday.

Groundnut oil edged up further by Re one at Rs 436 per 10 kg on acute shortage of ready stock and limited inflows from the producing centres.Kardi oil, karanji oil and sunflower oil expeller improved by Rs five each to Rs 555, Rs 180 and Rs 420 per 10 kg respectively on better industrial demand. Copra oil white declined by Rs 10 to Rs 460 per 10 kg. Cottonseed oil - washed and refined varieties - firmed up by Rs two each to Rs 405 and Rs 407 per 10 kg respectively.

Imported palmolein firmed up further by Rs four at Rs 402 per 10 kg on improved industrial demand and modest arrivals.

Sugar: An easy-to-subdued trend was noticed in sugar prices at the wholesale sugar market yesterday. The undertone of the market was weak. S-30 ruled subdued at Rs 1520/1533 against the previous level of Rs 1520/1540 a quintal on dull offtake coupled with easy availability of ready stock. M-30 eased to Rs 1525/1590 against the previous level of Rs 1528/1590 a quintal. Meanwhile, sugar for the checkpost deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1505/1515 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1515/1530 a quintal for M-30 .

Non-ferrous metals: An easy-to-steady condition was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday. The demand remained subdued and arrivals were reported to be normal.

Copper heavy scraps, brass utensils and brass sheetcuttings declined by 50 paise each to Rs 112, Rs 87.50 and Rs 91 a kg respectively. Aluminium utensils were steady, and were quoted at Rs 62.50 a kg on narrow movements.

In the virgin section, tin slabs and nickel cathodes declined by Rs five and Rs four to Rs 345 and Rs 301 a kg respectively on reduced demand against improved inflows. Copper wirebar eased by 50 paise at Rs 127.50 a kg. All the other metals ruled overall steady, and were quoted as under : aluminium ingots Rs 82, zinc slabs Rs 75 and lead ingots Rs 42 a kg respectively.

Bullion: A downward trend was witnessed in the local bullion market yesterday. Both the precious metals ruled dull, and the undertone of the market remained hesitant.

Silver .999 and .916 fell further by Rs 90 and Rs 100 respectively to Rs 8,190 and Rs 8,085 a kg respectively. Both standard gold and 22 carat gold eased further by Rs 15 each to Rs 4,080 and Rs 3,775 per 10 grammes respectively on dull consumer demand backed by weak overseas advices. Gold biscuit prices also weakened by Rs 200 at Rs 47,900 per piece of bar.
