Today’s gamer is not the stereotypical teen loner playing in his parents’ basement. She’s a coworker with two kids, the guy next to you at the gym, a fellow volunteer — and most commonly, a spouse, sibling or friend, according to the findings of a gaming survey. The global survey commissioned by Dell and conducted by Researchscape covered gamers in countries like India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, UK and US to better understand gaming habits, attitudes and the wider gaming community as it has become today. The findings reveal that the gaming community is welcoming and accepting of others with skill (40 per cent) being the primary influencer when selecting an opponent — not ethnicity (8 per cent), political view (7 per cent) or sexual orientation (6 per cent).
