The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked banks to provide 2.5 per cent risk weight even to securities that carry 100 per cent risk weight so that "some capital cushion be provided for market risk in addition to credit risk". The RBI has explained the rationale for loading the risk weightage in its circular to banks.
