Sugar; Gold Remian Firm; Castroseeds Decline

Groundnut oil continued to rule steady at Rs 355 per 10 kg on subdued demand coupled with modest arrival of stock. The trading volume was modest and arrivals were nominal from oirerseas centres yesterday.

Castor oil commercial and FSG qualities eased further by Re 1 each to Rs 379 and Rs 391 per 10 kg respeetively. Copra oil white and mowra oil dechned by Rs 5 each to Rs 395 and Rs 230 a kg respectively on dull industrial interest and modest availability.

Imported RBD palinolein and imported soya oil refined softened

further by Rs 3 each to Rs 208 and Rs 219 per 10 kg respectively.

Castorseeds June-2000 contract remained untraded yesterday. September contract, opened Rs 8 down at Rs 1,775 a quintal and held steady. It declined to Rs 1,746 fore elosing at Rs 1750 a quintal.

Castor oil international contract

April-2000 opened steady at Rs 394 per 10 kg and ruled quiet at the same level towards closing yesterday. The contract for August-2000 commenced at Rs 393 per 10 kg and held steady.

Castorsieeds declined further by Rs 5 to Rs 1,745 per quintal on dull industrial demand.

Sugar: At Turbhe, wholesale sugar market at Navi Mumbai small grade ruled firm, while medium grade ruled quiet. Small grade sugar (S-30) firmed up to Rs 1405/1435 a quintal. Mediumgrade (M-30) ruled overall steady too at 1440-1490 a quintal. Sugar prices for check post were quoted higher at Rs 1390/1415 a quintal for S-30 grade and Rs 1425/1450 for the medium.

No-ferrous metals: A mixed trend witnessed in the non-ferrous metals at the local market yesterday Scrap metals ruled weak while virgin metals ruled steady. The demand was easy to steady against normal supply position.

In scraps, copper heavy scraps, copper utensils and brass utensils eased by 50 paise each to Rs 118.00, Rs 100.50 and Rs 90.50 per kg respectively. All the other met als ruled overall steady and were nominally quoted as under: brass sheetcuttings Rs 97.00 and aluminium utensils Rs 69.00 a kg.

The other virgins were quoted as under: copper wirebar Rs 127.00, aluminium ingots Rs 90.50, zinc slabs Rs 89.25; lead ingots Rs 34.50, tin slabs Rs 378 and niekel cathodes Rs 615 a kg respectively. Bullion At the local bullion market yesterday silver ruled divergent while gold ruled firm.

Silver .999 eased by Rs 15 at Rs 7850 a kg, while silver .916 ruled steady at Rs 7720 a kg. The demand was modest coupled with normal arrivals of imported goods.

Standard gold and 22 carat gold prices improved by Rs 15 and Rs 10 to Rs 4,380 and Rs 4,050 per 10 gm respectively on firm overseas advices. Gold biscuits prices firmed up too and gained by Rs 200 to Rs 51,400 per piece on better offtake and normal inflows of stock and moderate trading.
