Chaoren Pokphand group of Thailand has proposed to set up a Rs 45 crore poultry feed plant in Orissa.
The Thai company with a turnover in excess of $20 billion has formally put forth the proposal during a meeting between a high-level business delegation of the group with the senior state government officials here on Thursday.
The proposed plant will have an installed capacity of 10,000 tonnes of poultry feed per annum. The company has estimated its land requirement for the project at 20 acres though the location of the project is yet to be decided.

The company intends to source raw material for the plant such as maize and oilseeds from within the state. Meanwhile, the representatives of the company yesterday visited some of the poultry farms in and around Bhubaneswar to gain a first-hand experience on their operations. Currently, with no feed plant operating in the state, most of the requirement is being bought from other states.
The company has agreed to provide requisite financial and technical assistance to 600 entrepreneurs in the state for poultry farming. Each of these farmers will be encouraged to produce atleast 2,000 broilers per annum.
In fact, the group which is the second largest poultry company in the world with presence in 10 countries and a combined output of 140 crore birds per annum, has contributed in a similar fashion towards the spiralling growth of poultry industry in China. The company currently operates 90 feed plants in China and 10 in Thailand. The Orissa Chief Minister JB Patnaik during his visit to Thailand last month had toured one of the facilities of the company at Saraburi province.
