Sugar gained. Balrampur Chini rose Rs 26.80 to Rs 172.90, Thiru Arooran Sugar went up Rs 14.80 to Rs 96.15 and Dhampur Sugar picked up Rs 11.45 to Rs 112.60. Bajaj Hindustan gained Rs 27.20 to Rs 113.20 and Bannari Amman was up Rs 25 to Rs 79. Sakthi Sugars fell Rs 3.90 to Rs 20. In telecom equipment, Himachal Futuristics gained Rs 19.15 to to Rs 35.90 and Global Tele was up Rs 20.40 to Rs 105.50. Punjab Wireless fell Rs 5.50 to Rs 58.55 and Tata Telecom was up Rs 1.50 to Rs 46.50.

Pharma-MNCs was also up. E Merck gained Rs 50.85 to Rs 301.25, Hoechst picked up Rs 92 to Rs 502 and Knoll Pharma rose Rs 163 to Rs 868. Pfizer was up Rs 76.75 to Rs 656. In personal care, Bausch & Lomb gained Rs 30.45 to Rs 116.30, Indian Shaving was up Rs 23 to Rs 855 and Procter & Gamble rose Rs 62 to Rs 842. Colgate Palmolive fell Rs 32.95 to Rs 268.80 and Ponds was down Rs 12 to Rs 1200.

In carbon black, Cabot India lost Rs 16.60 to Rs 95 and Phillips Carbon fell Rs 1.80 to Rs 28.50.
