The wholesale debt market of the National Stock Exchange witnessed trades worth Rs 288.14 crore yesterday with frenzied trading in corporate debentures amounting to Rs 34.24 crore.
A dealer with a nationalised bank said, trading volumes were much higher today with a general feeling that yields are good. Brokers were quite hesitant earlier but todays trading suggests that they are now prepared to take up fresh positions.

While the 12 per cent 1999 government stock was traded for Rs 35 crore at 12.63 per cent, the zero coupon 2000 government bond saw the maximum trades with volumes touching Rs 55 crore at 13.19 per cent compared to 13.25 per cent.
The 364 day T-bill maturing on the 29th of this month was traded at 6.50 per cent while the 13.50 per cent SLR bond of IDBI maturing in 2003 was traded for Rs 4 crore at 13.71 per cent. Inter bank call rates however remained in the range of 4.50 - 5.25 per cent. Of the corporate debentures traded, the 14 per cent Reliance debenture maturing in 2000 saw the maximum trades at Rs 23.94 crore followed by the 16.50 per cent Indian Rayon debenture maturing in 2002 which witnessed trades worth Rs 10.17 crore.
