The wholesale debt market at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) saw turnover of Rs 610.18 crore yesterday .
The call rates opened around 4 per cent and steadily lost ground during the day. Overnight money finally closed around 2.5-3 per cent levels . "The lower calls lent support to the activity in the debt market and the prices of almost all securities saw increases" said a money market dealer.

The activity was high in the medium and short-term maturity securities segment. The securities which drew interest were the 12.14 per cent government loan maturing in 2000 exchanged for Rs 185 crore at 12.06 per cent yield . The new issue of 12.69 per cent government loan maturing in 2002 was also actively traded for Rs 75 crore at 12.48 per cent yield . The 13.50 per cent government loans maturing this year saw activity of Rs 40 crore at 8.61 per cent yield .
The treasury bills market witnessed traded for Rs 130 crore, of which the 364- day treasury bills maturing in April 1998 dealt for Rs 41 crore at 9.27 per cent yield .
Corporate debentures saw trading at Rs 6.37 crore, of which the 14 per cent Reliance issue maturing in 2000 changed hands for Rs 4.9 crore at 17.89 per cent yield.
