While hardcore gamers scoff at the thought of playing games on mobile phones, for some, nothing comes in more handy than a good gaming phone while on the go. The author picks out the best of the lot
Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (Rs 56,900)
An octa-core processor and 4GB of RAM ensured zippy performance in Real Racing 3, even when I had nine tabs open on the browser and a couple of other apps operational as well. And, while the phone does heat up a bit, it really isn't alarming when compared with its peers. It combines well with the Gear VR, too.
With 6GB of RAM on board, playing Asphalt 8 Airborne and Need For Speed Most Wanted was a breeze even with five browser tabs, WhatsApp and Facebook running in the background. But the phone heats up with such multi-tasking. So, get a cover.
Xiaomi Mi5 (Rs 24,999)
With 3GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 820 processor, Riptide GP 2, Asphalt 8: Airborne and NFS: Most Wanted left me satisfied after a five-hour gaming session. This, however, left the phone warm with a severely depleted battery.
Apple iPhone 7 Plus (Rs 72,000 onwards)
If you're on iOS, look no further. With a generous amount of RAM, copious processing power and a big screen, I had a lot of fun playing Riptide GP: Renegade; LIMBO, too, performed wonderfully and didn't heat up the phone too much.
