Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh yesterday announced the state's export policy which aims to increase exports turnover from Rs 7,000 crore to Rs 20,000 crore by 2002.
Unveiling the policy at a meeting organised by Confederation of Indian Industry in New Delhi, Singh said his government would set up an export promotion bureau to create a favourable environment for growth in exports. The government would also set up 12 product promotion groups consisting of exporters, manufacturers and experts to provide closer interaction and a stronger support system for identified export sectors, the Chief Minister added.
For departmental coordination regarding exports, a "Board of Trade" headed by the Chief Minister himself, and an "empowered committee" under the state chief secretary would be made operational soon, Singh said.

The state government would set up regional export offices at Jhansi, Moradabad-Aligarh, Ferozabad, Rudrapur, Kanpur, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Agra, Lucknow, Bhadohi, Noida, Saharanpur and Bareilly, he said.
The Chief Minister said the policy would exempt raw material, packing and other articles used in production of export items from tax. The state government would also relax the trade-tax levied on sale of special import licences issued by the Centre, he said, adding that relaxation on the `mandi fee' on raw material would be considered.
Singh assured uninterrupted and quality power supply and modern communication facilities to export units. He also announced the setting up of "export parks" in Noida, Moradabad, Kanpur and Unnao, and trade centres in Agra and Noida. Units exporting 50 per cent or more of their products would be granted "public utility status". Units exporting items worth Rs 20 lakh or more annually would be given "green card" to provide all facilities and relaxation on priority basis.
Singh assured that clearances would be provided under a single table system "under one roof". Singh also announced that his government had taken a significant step towards abolition of inspector raj.
