Volumes Slump To Rs 186.46 Crore

The wholesale debt market segment of the National Stock Exchange witnessed trades worth Rs 186.46 crore yesterday.

This was much lower than the Rs 203.22-crore worth of deals recorded on Wednesday. Long-term securities were in demand again as the provident funds continued to remain active.

The 12.50 per cent central government security maturing in 2004 was traded for Rs 36 lakh at a yield of 13.64 per cent. The deal was concluded at Rs 95.70 and is to be settled after two days. The 14 per cent central government paper maturing in 2005 was also traded for an identical sum. The deal is to be settled after two days and was struck at 13.54 per cent.

The 13.85 per cent gilt maturing in 2006 saw a trade worth Rs 25 lakh and is to be settled after one day. The deal was struck at Rs 101.30. The 14 per cent central government security maturing in 2006 also changed hands for Rs 3.76 lakh.

The short-and medium-term securities found quite a few takers. The 13.50 per 1998 paper was traded for Rs 20 crore at yield of 11.70 per cent. The deal, which is to be settled on the same day, was concluded at Rs 102.73.

The security saw yet another deal worth 10 crore at a marginally lower price of Rs 102.60. The deal is to be settled after two days.
