Australia vs South Africa Highlights, Women's T20 World Cup 2023
Australia Women have now etched their name in the history of sports as one of the greatest ever to have played the game of cricket. They are the only team in the world of competitive team sport to have achieved two hat-tricks of title wins as they won their sixth T20 World Cup title by beating hosts South Africa in the final by 19 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss at Newlands, Capetown, the Southern Stars could reach 156/6 thanks to Player of the Match Beth Mooney's unbeaten 74. Ashleigh Gardner, who has been named player of the series also added 29 with the bat for the Aussies.
The Proteas women, who were able to defend 165 in the semi-final, were expected to chase down 157 as well. However, their start was not up to the mark as they lost three wickets for just 54 runs in the first 10.4 overs.
Later, Laura Wolvaardt and Chloe Tryon tried their best to get to the target with a 55-run stand between them for the fourth wicket. But with Wolvaardt’s wicket, things changed and eventually, the hosts could manage to get to only as far as 137/6 in the 20 overs and lost the match by 19 runs.
