The Indian Mixed Badminton team could not defend the gold medal that it had won in 2018 as it lost to Malaysia in the final 1-3. The only match India could win came courtesy of PV Sindhu. The loss of Kidambi Srikanth against a much lower-ranked opponent was shocking.

More shock came India's way as the Women's hockey team coukld convert only one out of the nine penalty corners it got and eventually lost to England 1-3. India's poster boy in Squash Saurav Ghosal was no match to world number two New Zealand's Paul Coll as he lost in straight sets to bowl out of the semi-final of the Men's Singles competition, he will now fight for the bronze medal.

Indian athletes also disappointed mostly with Dutee Chand failing to qualify for the Women's 100 M semi-final and Seema Punia and Navjeet Kaur finishing a lowly fifth and ninth in the Women's Discuss Throw final. The qualification of Murali Sreeshankar and Md Anees Yahaya in the Men's Long Jump was a breath of fresh air. Manpreet Kaur also qualified for Women's Shot Put by finishing seventh overall.
