IND vs WI | 1st ODI | IND Win: Joseph, Akeal big positives for West Indies
While it was overall a forgettable game for West Indies as a team because they could not challenge the Indians for the most part of the game. But two players in spinner Akeal Hosein and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph shone with the ball in hand. While Joseph hit the lengths right and took crucial wickets with his pace and bounce, Hosein got the ball to turn and drift and obviously, he showed the carrom ball he has developed as he dismissed Ishan Kishan with it.

Ball 4: Wicket! Oh, that is a carrom ball from a left-arm spinner. That's something very new. He just bowled this with his fingers and it was flighted. Kishan tried to clear the deep square leg boundary, but failed to do so and was caught at the boundary.
The Indian white-ball captain Rohit Sharma started his career as full time India ODI captain with a bang as the team beat West Indies by six wickets in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was also the 1000th ODI for India as a team.
For India, Rohit himself top scored with 60 off 51 balls. The chase was going well as the opening pair of Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 84 for the first wicket before Alzarri Jospeh struck twice and removed Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli in the same over. India further lost Kishan and Rishabh Pant with the score at 116, still needing 61 to win with two new men in Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease.
However, Hooda, the debutant, along with Suryakumar guided India to victory as the duo built up an unbeaten 62 run stand for the fifth wicket and stabilised the chase of 177 which threatened to get tricky with India losing four wickets in four overs.
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss and choosing to ball first, India skipper Rohit Sharma's decision was vindicated by his spinners as between Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar, they picked five off the seven wickets that fell in the first 23 overs with the West Indian score at 79.
Jason Holder then built a 78 run stand with Fabian Allen to take West Indies to 176 before the team got bowled out in the 44th over. Holder top scored with 57 from 71 balls. For, India, Chahal picked four wicklets and also completed his 100 wickets in ODIs. Sundar, who was making his India comeback after going through a lot of injuries, also picked up three wickets.
