Ind vs Aus 2nd test Day 1 highlights:Cummins, Paine take Australia to 277/6

Australia win the toss and elected to bat first. India picked Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav in place of Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin.

On Day 1 of Perth test, Australia score 277/6 at Stumps on a green-ish track with the help of three fifties, Marcus Harris (70), Aaron Finch (50) and Travis Head (58) against India at Optumus Stadium. Pat Cummins and Paine survived the nine-over new ball spell - where Bumrah was hostile with his lines and lengths.

Post lunch, Bumrah broke the 100-run opening partnership and the visitors fought back by picking two more wickets in the second session. Shaun Marsh, Australia's best batter in the second innings in the Gabba Test was dropped on 24 by Rishabh Pant and the home boy along with Travis Head threatened to take the game away from India. But, Australia decided to become generous hosts and both the well-set batters gifted their wickets away in a course of play.

Earlier, Australia posted 145/3 at tea on the opening day of the second cricket Test against India here on Friday.

At the break, Shaun Marsh (8 batting) and Peter Handscomb (4 batting) were at the crease.

All the three wickets fell in the post lunch session with Fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and part time spinner Hanuma Vihari bagging one each.

Openers Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch gave the hosts a steady start. Batting comfortably on a pitch which did not have too much bounce despite some green cover, they frustrated the all-pace Indian attack with a 112-run stand.

Harris scored 70 runs off 141 deliveries with 10 hits to the fence. Finch stroked six boundaries on his way to 50 off 105 balls.

Australian captain Tim Paine saw his decision to bat first upon winning the toss being vindicated as the opening pair batted comfortably throughout the session.

A couple of leg before appeals against Finch and a minor run out scare against Harris were the only times the batsmen were somewhat troubled.

Forced to go in with an all pace attack due to a minor injury to star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian bowlers seemed a bit jaded after their exertions in the last match.

Both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were down on pace and struggled at times to maintain line and length.

The Indians managed to claw their way back into the game after lunch.

Bumrah gave India the first breakthrough after resumption by trapping Finch leg before with an excellent delivery which kept low and seamed in sharply.

Usman Khawaja batted 38 balls for just five runs before virtually gifting away his wicket to Umesh Ydav with a rather forgettable stroke.

Australia suffered another blow just three overs later when Vihari bagged Harris' wicket thanks to a superb catch by Ajinkya Rahane at first slip.

Umesh Yadav continues and Cummins take a single off the 2nd ball. Paine blocks the remaining deliveries.

Bumrah continues and starts with a jaffa, squared Cummins. One run taken off the 2nd ball by Cummins. Block from Paine and a single off the next ball. Cummins leave the 5th ball alone. Yorker but the ball is missing leg stump.

Umesh Yadav [16.0-2-60-1] is back into the attack and Cummins scores couple of runs off the 3rd ball after getting beaten off first two deliveries. Paine pulls the last ball for FOUR.

Jasprit Bumrah [18.0-7-33-1] is back into the attack, Paine leaves the first ball alone to the keeper. Full toss at 139.4kph and Bumrah gets away with it. Paine reaches out and square-drives it staright to backward point follows by Jaffa. 4 byes, it just took off from a length, seamed away as well - probably hit the crack.

Ishant Sharma [15.0-6-35-1] is back into the attack and he gets the wicket of Travis Head, who played an extravagent shot and Shami takes the catch at deep third man. It was full and outside off, Head plays away from his body and flashed his bat hard at it. The ball flies off the outside edge and settles into the hands of Shami.

Pat Cummins, right handed bat, comes to the crease and defends the first ball he faced, and now its block block and block to end the over.
