India vs Australia third Test, Day 3 Highlights
The Australian team has finally done what it was out to achieve in this series. It has been able to win the third match and stay alive in the series. Although it cannot wrest the Border-Gavaskar Trophy anymore, it has entered the final of the World Test championship with this nine-wicket win. It also has the opportunity to draw the series, which would be nothing short of a win.
Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon with the ball and Usman Khawaja and Travis Head with the bat have been the heroes for the Aussie team. Australia, after losing the toss, bowled well and got the hosts out for a meagre 109. Kuhnemann picked 5-16 while Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 22.
Later on, Australia lost its last six wickets for just 11 runs in their first innings, but not before taking an 88 runs lead thanks to a fighting 60 by Usman Khawaja at the top and contributions from Marnus Labuschagne, Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green. For India, Ravindra Jadeja picked four wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav got three each.
In the second innings, India were once again bamboozled by the Aussies spinners with Nathan Lyon being the wrecker in chief. He picked up 8/64 and if not for Pujara’s 59, India wouldn’t have been able to get a lead of 76 runs and set a target of 77.
Australia lost Khawaja early in the fourth innings, but that did not deter the intent of Travis Head (49*) and Labuschagne (28*) who chased the target of 77 easily and gave Australia a famous nine-wicket win.
