Full-time report: FC Goa put three past Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi as in-form Spanish forward Ferran Corominas got a brace to move atop the top scorers list in ISL 2018-19.
The first goal came in the 11th minute when Goa got a corner that was headed back out of the box. Jahouh received the ball and floated it back into the box from the right hand side with Corominas reaching at the near post and putting on a glancing header that put the ball inside the far post to make it 0-1.
After the first goal, Goa continued to pile pressure on the home team who had a hard time getting out of their own half and relied heavily on counter-attacks to get forward. Goa were comfortable building from the back and were generally patient with their build up even though the first goal came off a set-piece and the other, in the extra-time, came through a counter-attack.
The second came in the last minute of the first half when Corominas carried the ball forward in a counter-attack with two of his teammates on either side. He ran through the middle and opened up space for himself, cut in a little bit to get on his favourite right foot and struck the ball at the bottom left corner to make it 2-0 in Goa's favour.
In the first half, Kerala weren't great going forward although they did have a great chance to equalise in the 16th minute when Goa got a free-kick that was promptly cleared. Seriton miscued the clearance and the onrushing Narzary was through on goal with a teammate by his side, but before he could either take the shot or lay it off a sliding Seriton tackle saved the day for Goa.
Kerala improved in the second half, or at least, made more efforts to get forward, mixing it up with long-range efforts.
Althugh, against the run of play, it was FC Goa that got the first genuine effort in the second half when, in the 63rd minute, Corominas, in the middle got a cut-back from the left. His first attempt was blocked by sliding Kerala defenders. The ball fell back to Corominas whose second was parried off for a corner by the goalkeeper.
Goa did get their third goal, four minutes later when Manvir Singh struck. Goa got the corner and Manvir, unchecked inside the box, rose to meet a fine delivery at the near post and make it 0-3.
Kerala had the chance to pull one back in the 70th minute when a sloppy cleareance by Ali gave Doungel the chance to take a strike but his effort to the top right corner was parried by the diving goalkeeper.
In the 79th minute, Palanca had two back-to-back chances. First he received the ball on the inside left and tried to toe poke it towards the far post but his effort trickled beyond the target. Seconds later, Palanca had the chance to go down the middle with Corominas to his right but he looked to dribble ahead and Jhingan dispossed him.
Kerala did get a consolation goal in the 92nd minute when Jhingan put in a cross from the right that's headed back to him. He then puts in a low cross at the near post and Nikola Krcmarevic slid in to poke home Kerala's first goal of the evening to make it 1-3.
With the latest home loss, Kerala Blasters FC drop down to seventh spot with seven points from as many games while FC Goa remain on top with 16 points from seven games.
