7Seas Technologies Limited, a Hyderabad-based independent game development company, will be launching 30 more online games during the current financial year at an investment of Rs 1 crore.
“With the increasing broadband penetration and the consumer online gaming market projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 76 per cent to touch $73 million (approximately Rs 336 crore) by 2012 in India, our primary focus now is on online games. The new games will be across racing, puzzle and kids genres,” L Maruti Sanker, managing director of 7Seas Technologies, told Business Standard.
The company, which has over 400 intellectual property-based games across online, casual, PC and mobile genres on its gaming portal onlinerealgames.com, recently launched a situation-based online game ‘Hang Kasab’.
“Post the 26/11 incident, hate filled cry against Ajmal Amir Kasab. After reading about news articles that there was no hangman on the jail rolls to prepare a noose for this 22-year-old Pakistani terrorist who killed scores of people in Mumbai, we thought of developing a free online game ,” Sanker said.
‘Hang Kasab’, developed with an investment of Rs 3 lakh, starts with Kasab running without a rope, giving gamers a chance to hang the terrorist with just a click of a mouse.
Sanker said ‘Hang Kasab’ had been witnessing 100,000 hits per day from across the globe. “Of this, about 80 per cent are Indians,” he said, adding the shelf-life of games such as these with a reality touch depends on how long the situation stays in the news.
