Accord Software and Systems, an embedded software specialist here, said its spacecraft positioning system (SPS) has gone on-board ISRO's latest remote sensing satellite, the IRS P6 also.

Built using geographic positioning system (GPS) technology, the SPS has been in use on-board other ISRO remote sensing satellites from 1999, Accord said.

S Purushotham, executive director of Accord, said the o-board SPS receives signals from GPS satellites and computes position, velocity and time for the IRS spacecraft. These parameters are stored for the entire orbit duration and downloaded to the ground station with a telecommand.

The GPS satellites, orginally launched by the US, now include Russian and European satellites.

"Accord has excellent GPS core technology knowledge, skills and experience, developed the core GPS technology through in-house R&D efforts," Purushotam said.

The technology was applicable in automotive, consumer electronics and aerospace sectors. Accord had applied for four international patents related to GPS technology, said J M Sundaresan, managing director of the company.
