Telephony major Reliance Infocomm has installed an anti-virus and spam suite, Reliance Mail Protect (RMP) at its gateway to filter unobjectionable mails from entering the network.

The RMP is based on the anti-virus technology provided by IronPort, a global major in email network security.

This makes the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises (ADAE) group company the only bandwidth provider to deploy an anti-virus solution at the gateway level.

Gateways are the connectivity locations, a point where telecom brings bandwidth from global players before distributing it to customers.

Confirming this, Sunil Gupta, head (business operations), Reliance Infocomm Internet Data Centre (IDC) said, "RMP will help in providing a pure internet bandwidth to users by filtering spams and viruses and result in huge savings on bandwidth costs."

This will also result in elimination of anti-virus and spam protection software at individual customer levels, he adds.
