The West Bengal government is close to strike a deal with Infosys for providing it land for a office in Kolkata. The government hopes to finalise the deal by 2008.

This was revealed by Debesh Das, minister in charge, department of information technology, West Bengal, on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the the Confederation of Indian Industry recently.

"We are very close to finalise a deal with Infosys. We hope it be signed by next year," he said.

The minister said that the location of Infosys's Kolkata office could be "somewhere near airport".

He did not rule out the possibility of Jagdishpur, an area in the close vicinity of Dum Dum airport, to be the new address of Infosys, which has sought a 100 acre land from the government. "Jagdishpur could be one of the locations," he said.

Yesterday, replying to a question raised in the West Bengal Assembly, Das had said, the government would soon provide additional land to software firms Infosys and Wipro for expanding their facilities.

However, due to land shortage, the government was unable to provide them land at Rajarhat, the projected IT hub of West Bengal.
