Oracle Corporation announced the appointment of Bhaskar Pramanik as its India head.
“We confirm that Krishan Dhawan, managing director, Oracle India, has resigned from Oracle to pursue other opportunities. The new managing director of Oracle India is Bhaskar Pramanik, who was previously the vice-president, global commercial systems sales at Sun Microsystems,” the company stated.
Oracle announced the acquisition of Sun Microsystems in April 2009 for $7.4 billion. But it was only earlier this year that the company received regulatory approvals for integration. In India, the integration is yet to start.
Dhawan headed Oracle’s Indian operations for more than five years. Born in Prague, the erstwhile Czechoslovakia, his father being a part of the Indian Foreign Service, Dhawan spent 23 years at Bank of America NA, serving in various senior executive capacities before he shifted to the IT industry by joining Oracle.
Under his leadership, Oracle India not only made inroads in the government segment, but also bagged Bharti Airtel as one of its prized customers.
Oracle India has close to 24,000 employees and this includes its development centre and iFlex (now called Oracle Financial Services Software).
Sun Microsystems has 1,200-1,300 employees in India. Pramanik, an engineer from IIT Kanpur, has over 30 years of experience in the IT industry. He joined Sun in 1997 and the company established its fully-owned subsidiary in 2008.
