Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Friday launched its ‘Choose Your Mobile Number Scheme’ across the country.

The new scheme, which was launched in Andhra Pradesh on a pilot basis on November 1, provides a new customer with a range of 100,000 numbers to choose from. The customer can choose the number at her leisure time from her own mobile (via SMS to 53734) or broadband connection (bsnl.co.in).

“About 5,500 mobile connections are being sold per day in Andhra Pradesh through this scheme and without any worthwhile expenditure on marketing, the sale of mobile connections in the state under this scheme has crossed 120,000,” BSNL chief general manager (AP circle), Rajeev Agarwal, told mediapersons here.

According to RK Upadhyay, chairman and managing director, who announced the pan-India launch of the scheme, the scheme allows optimum inventory of SIMs in the market and provide maximum choice to customer and retailers.

“Besides, it increases the loyalty of the customers to BSNL as the number is taken on his choice. We will set targets for the scheme after watching the initial response. We expect that the scheme will attract more than 1 million new subscribers,” he added.
