Global software major, CA Technologies, is eyeing a growth rate of 35-40 per cent this fiscal in the data management vertical, vis-à-vis a market growth rate of 18-25 per cent year-on-year.
“The Indian data management market is sized anywhere between $25-30 million. This is inclusive of the hardware and software segments. We are aiming at capturing 10 per cent of the market by 2011,” said Vijayant Rai, director channels, CA Technologies.
CA Technologies, formerly Computer Associates, is currently eyeing “growth and emerging markets”, which includes burgeoning economies such as China, Russia and Brazil, besides India, where the company grew 30 per cent last fiscal.
The $4.5 billion multinational company is looking at expanding its footprint in India on the back of expanding its partner base.
“CA Technologies functions primarily on the business to business (B2B) model, which means in a process of growth partners, become a priority. Keeping this in mind, we will expand partner base in India from 150 last year to 200 this fiscal,” said Rai.
The focus on expansion plans are fuelled by the overwhelming growth of data in India, on the back of projects such as the Unique Identification Scheme (UID), launched in August.

“The fact that India is an emerging market, with a growing need for management of data in the public and the private sphere, will act as catalysts to this process,” said Rai.
The global software major will prioritise income generation from contracts on power projects, which are handed out to Indian information technology (IT) majors such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) or HCL.
The model is works for the company, given the fact that it allows CA Technologies to partner more than one IT company, and exploit the comfort of the brand name associated with it, while aiding market penetration in the process.
“We are vendors for IT majors in the execution of contracts ranging from setting up 3 servers in the Small and Medium Business (SMB) segment to about 500 servers in the larger contracts,” Rai explained.
