Canon, the Japanese giant in imaging technologies, on Tuesday, launched “world’s highest resolution full-frame DSLR cameras”, EOS 5DS and EOS 5DSR and a DSLR-camcorder hybrid, professional video camera XC10 4K.

Kazutada Kobayashi, president and chief executive officer of Canon India Private Limited said, while introducing the camera series, “With the introduction of the world’s highest resolution full frame camera, Canon has unveiled cutting-edge technology in the camera industry”.

Kobayashi, while addressing the media, added that with the launch of these products, they plan to achieve a market share of 50 per cent in the DSLR segment.

One of the aims of the company is to have rapid retail expansion, especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities. In doing so, they aim to increase their current number of Canon Image Squares (CIS) to 200 by the end of 2015.

With ultra-high resolution, the provision of large-format printing and extensive cropping capability, Canon is expected to woo professional photographers, commercial studios, architectural photo artists and passionate camera lovers.

The XC10 4K professional video camera features a compact, lightweight and versatile design for convenient 4K/ full HD video shooting and 12 megapixel digital still photography. This one aims at attracting enthusiastic film-makers.

The two flagship DSLRs - EOS 5DS and 5DSR - are equipped with a 50.6 megapixel 35 mm, full-frame CMOS sensor processors, making them the highest resolution camera in the Canon’s extensive range.

The EOS 5DSR features cancellation of its optical low pass filter effect and allows to take full advantage of the extremely high resolution sensor to capture fine levels of detail and texture. To handle the ultra-high pixel count, the company has introduced a new cam-motor driven mirror mechanism to minimise mirror vibrations that occur and cause image shake.

From wedding photographers to filmmakers, to news gathering agencies, the camera comes as a boon, almost a solution to their unfulfilled passionate cravings. But, the price will put a dent in your pockets. The 5DS and 5DSR cameras are priced at Rs 2,52,995 and Rs 2,65,995 respectively. The XC10 video camera costs Rs 1,70,000.

A unique feature in the XC10 is its ability to extract 8 megapixel still images in-camera from recorded 4K footage, which is essential for those to whom each moment of the footage could be a critical capture.

Canon has been a choice of professional artists and photographers for many years. Whether these cameras will take its growth to higher levels, and if yes, then by what margin, remains to be seen. Till then, you can splurge on this camera and go for a trip to see its actual benefits over the existing counterparts.
