The Centre will soon appoint the registrar and director for the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Orissa. The process is underway and the appointments are to be made soon. The Orissa government has also been informed about this development.
Further, to expedite the process of setting up of the proposed IIT, it has asked the state government to provide 2 residential accommodations in the capital city at standard license fee applicable to the all India officers, official sources said here.
In a letter addressed to the chief secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy, Ashok Thakur, additional secretary ( higher education), ministry of human resources development, Government of India (GoI), has stated the ministry wants to make the IIT in Orissa functional before the ensuing academic session.
It has started functioning from the campus of the IIT (Kharagpur) and it is the earnest endeavor of the ministry to make the IIT functional in Orissa as soon as possible.
Since the unit doesn’t have any residential accommodation, the Centre has asked the state government to allot two residential quarters for the registrar and the director respectively, on the basis of standard license fee.
The latest initiative by the ministry of human resources development comes after the state government sent a reminder recently urging the early visit of the Site Selection Committee headed by Ashok Thakur.
