The eBay India Census 2009 places Chandigarh at the tenth spot among the largest e-commerce hubs in the country. eBay is the Indian subsidiary of eBay Inc, one of India’s leading e-commerce marketplace where one can trade online. India has over 2,471 e- commerce hubs according to eBay Census 2009.
In eBay Census 2008, Chandigarh had ranked eighteenth after Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune and Faridabad.
Sharat Digumarti, head, categories, eBay India, who today unveiled the eBay Census Guide, which documents the key findings and trends in online buying and selling, revealed that technology got the lion’s share of Chandigarh online shoppers’ wallets at 40 per cent of all transactions. Chandigarh entrepreneurs sold the most technology products at 49 per cent of all transactions to buyers in India.
Revealing interesting trends, Digumarti said the distribution channel of eBay was encouraging artisans and craftsmen in rural areas to sell their products using the platform.
He added that craftsmen in Ludhiana using eBay distribution channel had exported golf clubs to international buyers in the US, France and Germany.
He added the company was looking at growing business from rural areas by encouraging entrepreneurs and SMEs to trade through their channel.
