The world's largest PC maker Dell has reported a 63 per cent growth in its Indian revenues at Rs 1,800 crore in the second quarter this fiscal on the back of a sharp surge in sales. |
The company's sales in India also jumped 63 per cent year on year and achieved 82 per cent growth in shipments, Dell Asia Pacific/Japan President Steve Felice told reporters here. |
Dell's Indian revenue growth was higher than 31 per cent rise in China revenue, while shipment growth in the country was biggest among the three emerging markets "" China, Brazil and India. |
The company is likely to capture 20-30 per cent of the market share in India in the next few years, Felice said. |
"The growth in India has exceeded our expectations. Our market share also increased to 7 per cent in this quarter from 4 per cent in the last quarter," he said. |
"In the next 1-2 years, India will be third largest market for Dell in terms of revenue generation," he said. |
The company gained on the back of the customers' strong preference for standards-based technology and Dell's direct model in India. |
"We are now also focusing on the high-end of SME market but a major portion of our business will come from large corporates only," Dell India Vice President and General Manager Rajan Anandan said. |
Meanwhile, a company official said that the recalling of Sony-made lithium ion batteries in 4.1 million notebooks being sold by Dell during the last two years is unlikely to have any impact in India. |
"From the total number of recalled batteries worldwide, only a small portion was from India and it is not going to impact our business here," Dell Asia Pacific/Japan President Steve Felice said refusing to give the number of batteries recalled from India. |
