Iomega Corporation has just launched its new mini hard drive as an external storage solution in India. The 40GB mini hard drive is small enough to be carried in a pocket and weighs 100 gm. It is connected through USB 2.0 and receives power from a standard USB port.

The cable has an on-off switch that allows powering down without disconnection. Just connect it to a desktop or laptop's USB port and you're ready to take files anywhere.

The 4200-rpm drive has an aluminium enclosure and plug-and-play simplicity with any P4 PC or G3/G4 Mac. Each drive comes with a travel case, USB cable and a software CD, containing MusicMatch Jukebox and Adobe Photoshop to manage audio-visual content. Offered at Rs 11,250.

Finding networks

Wireless networkers face one big problem: what do you do when Windows XP can't find a network? NetStumbler, a free utility from netstumbler.com, will help.

It sniffs out nearby networks and displays detailed information about access points. A wireless network administrator can also use it to perform tasks like verifying that the network is set up as intended, finding dead spots, detect interference, detect unauthorised "rogue" access points and so on.

NetStumbler displays Wi-Fi protocol, encryption type, access point ID, signal and noise levels. If you have a global positioning system, NetStumbler will map out access point locations. NetStumbler has become the wardrivers' weapon of choice.

Have a blast

The Philips Portable sound system 010 (PSS010) is one of the cutest CD/MP3 ghetto blasters in existence.

The unique blue-aluminium design is combined with powerful XSL acoustics and dynamic bass boost. It has a touch screen for easy navigation and digital tuning with presets as well as a motorised CD loader and remote control.
