HelloSoft, a supplier of signal processing technology and software-defined radio solutions for VoIP (voice-over internet protocol), wi-fi, cellular and converged markets, is planning to ramp up its operations at its Hyderabad development centre. |
The company is working on closing a deal with its first client in India to provide VoIP solutions for phones. |
According to Ron Victor, vice-president, marketing and business development of San Jose-based HelloSoft, the company is in negotiations with a government enterprise to provide technology for IP phones in India. |
VoIP-based phones would basically allow users to make calls using data networks. This form of communication will prove to be cost-effective for the operator and thereby translate to reduced call charges for the users, he added. |
Speaking to Business Standard, Victor said, "We are expecting a huge demand for our technology. We are negotiating with a few Taiwanese companies abroad for providing our solutions and based on this demand we will be ramping up our operations in Hyderabad as well." |
The entire development work for HelloSoft is done out of Hyderabad. The development centre over here employs around 110 digital signal processing engineers and the company is now looking at "aggressively expanding its Hyderabad operations." |
The company also focusses on other technologies like wireless LAN. With a Taiwanese-based semiconductor manufacturing company, HelloSoft has signed a deal for providing VoWLAN technology (voice-over wireless local area network). This technology basically allows users to make calls from wireless hotspots and wi-fi networks thereby enabling mobility. |
HelloSoft's customers include semiconductor manufacturers and original device manufacturers (ODMs) globally. Some of these include Texas Instruments, MIMOS and BridgeCo. |
Products that utilise one or more of HelloSoft's solutions include next-generation mobile phones, IP phones, personal digital assistants, set-top boxes, game consoles and even toys. |
"The technology that we provide is efficient as the software consumes less power, which directly affects the battery life of phones. There is optimisation of at least 30 per cent with our solution," Victor said. |
HelloSoft is targeting a global market share of 20 per cent within a year on the VoIP client side. |
