Honor, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer and a subsidiary of Huawei, is gearing up to launch the Honor 8X with a mammoth 6.5-inch notch-based screen, Kirin 710 system-on-chip (SoC) and artificial intelligence-based dual rear camera module. The Amazon-exclusive smartphone is a successor of the Honor 7X, which was launched last year. It would get a new glass design, improved camera with multiple AI-based modes and a powerful processor.

The Honor 8X would be the second device from the stable of Huawei to use Kirin 710 processor, first being the Huawei Nova 3i (review) that was launched alongside the Huawei Nova 3 earlier this year. This octa-core processor is built on 12 nanometre processing technology. It is capable to reach a processing speed of up to 2.2GHz. In the Honor 8X, the processor is mated with Mali G51 MP4 graphic processing unit with turbo technology for on-demand graphic acceleration. The dualSIM phone would come in three RAM and storage configurations -- 4GB/64GB, 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. The phone would also have a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. The phone would boot Android Oreo 8.1-based Emotion UI (EMUI) 8 out of the box. Powering the device would be a 3,750 mAh battery, which the company claims would last for more than a day.

Imaging is another area where the Honor 8X would get major improvements. The Honor 8X would have a dual camera module on the back, featuring a 20-megapixel primary sensor mated with a 2MP lens to gauge depth information. There would be a 16MP shooter on the front for selfies. Both the camera modules would use AI for automatic scene recognition.

The price and colour variants of the Honor 8X would be revealed at the launch event, which would be livestreamed here:
