Hewlett-Packard Ltd (HP) is planning to launch a data centre, a cloud computing infrastructure to host and manage its cloud computing customers, in Bangalore by the end of 2011.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference on cloud computing, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), HP country sales head Sanjay Gupta said that construction of the data centre was on track and it would go on stream by the end of this year.
The data centre would be the first of its kind from HP in India and would host and manage systems for its customers in cloud computing services. It would deliver services including public and private cloud computing. However, he refused to provide more details about the project.
Meanwhile, the company is also planning to offer cloud computing services to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) clusters. It plans to enter into agreement with SMEs in various industries like textiles and automobile, to offer cloud computing services based on their specific needs.
“We are in talks with some of the industry clusters in different parts of the country, but things are yet to be finalised. We see huge potential in offering cloud computing services for SMEs,” said Gupta.
The businesses in India are adopting cloud faster than expected and there was a huge opportunity for the companies in the segment in the country.
