Hewlett-Packard's new manufacturing facility at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand will be ready for operations later this month. Set up with an investment of Rs 100 crore, the plant has the capacity to manufacture 300,000 computers a month. |
The company will make its latest range of desktop computers, workstations, notebooks and servers at the new plant. |

Speaking to Business Standard, Hewlett-Packard India's head of marketing, Shuchi Sarkar, said: "The new manufacturing facility in Pantnagar and the existing facility in Bangalore will help us in addressing the growing demand for our products across the country." |

She said the company expected to grow its manufacturing operations in the country to cater to other emerging markets in the region. |

With an overall market share of 16.8 per cent in terms of unit-wise production, H-P is the frontrunner in the desktop segment. The company has a 16.7 per cent share in the consumer desktop segment while its market share in the commercial desktop space was 16.9 per cent. |

H-P also led the market in the portable notebook PC segment with a 40.5 per cent share in terms of unit shipment during the third quarter of 2006. |

The demand in the consumer domain is primarily led by home users looking at digital entertainment features and by parents buying computers for their children's educational needs. Encouraged by the 15 per cent growth in personal computer space in the North, the company introduced HP Pavillion Tablet in Chandigarh. |

Commenting on the region, Sarkar said: "It is an important market for our products as it contributes 11 per cent to the total sales of the company. In order to further strengthen our presence, we are planning to add new partners and eight more exclusive stores in next three months in this region." |
