Technology major HP seeks to retain its leadership position in digital printing space in the country even as the segment is poised for an explosive growth trajectory.
“The digital printing segment in India is estimated to be 5-6 per cent of the total printing market of $13 billion (Rs 1,300 cr) annually,” HP country manager, digital publishing solutions (Indigo), imaging and printing group, Ramani Viswanathan told Business Standard. “We have a market share of over 70 per cent and we are confident of retaining our top position with superior technology offerings and installations,” he added. Other notable competitors of HP include Fuji and Kodak.
He said according to a study, the digital printing market was touted to achieve a growth of almost 1,000 per cent by 2016 in India.
Digital printing refers to all printed output from a computer. It includes printing finished pages for brochures, photo albums, journals and booklets.
Viswanathan was in town to introduce a seven-colour versatile printing machine, HP Indigo to the Lucknow market. HP Indigo installation has a price tag of Rs 3.5 crore.
“Pan India, we have already sold about 70 such machines and we aim to cross the 100 mark in the next six months,” he informed.
