After being at the helm of the company in India for over eight years, Shanker Annaswamy, managing director (MD) of IBM India, is moving to a new role as a senior advisor to the company on India Enterprise. IBM has appointed Vanitha Narayanan, a company veteran, as its new MD for India.
Narayanan, who has been with IBM for over 25 years, most recently as the managing partner for global business services, will be responsible for the company’s sales, marketing, services and global delivery operations in the India/South Asia (ISA) region. Both Narayanan and Annaswamy will report to Jim Bramante, senior vice-president, IBM Growth Markets Unit, the firm said in a release. The appointments are with immediate effect.
Prior to joining IBM India as its managing director in 2004, Annaswamy served as the president and CEO for GE Medical Systems, South Asia and MD of Wipro-GE Medical Systems. He started his career with Philips Medical Systems. India is one of the fastest growing markets for IBM globally.
Besides, the company has a strong delivery presence in India with a headcount of over 100,000.
